Hey,
I am intending to buy a warship, are there any brands that are better than another (e.g Minicraft, Revell....etc.) so I buy the best one.
Thanks & Cheers,
Bren

This would depend on the exact ship you want. One company may make the best USS Enterprise, andother may make the best HMS Invicible and so on.

I just meant as in one brand name that pro' modellers prefer to work with than another which might have a bad reputation for detail or the like., I am probably going to buy a Tamiya King George, but am not sure.
Thanks & Cheers,

Tamiya and Skywave are the top two for ease of construction and better looking ships. With Tamiya you usually cannot go wrong.

Good Luck,

If you are going to build the King George, get the White Ensign Models photo-etch set for it.It will realy add to the ship. And make it one of the best you will ever see.The detail of the King George is top notch, but adding the photo-etch will finish it off.Good luck with a great ship. Bear

I am building the Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck now, (my first ship too) to be honest with you, I am not too happy with the fitting of the 1/350 Bismarck, but after all it's a 1978 kit. I am adding Eduard PE to it, so it at least got the railings, ladders, and things. One thing really bothers me is that the kit should come with some decals (i.e. the swastika at the bow, etc) but it doesn't. And the instruction for rigging the antenna is minimum, I wish it could be more clear. But I am blaming all these on its age. I think the new one must be better....

While looking at the ships in stock at the local hobby store I noticed a A-20 Havoc & Hurricane, my aircraft preferance took over and it looks like I will be getting those instead of the ship.
Thanks anyway,
Bren (:-)

I am sorry, but the A-20 HAvoc is just my favourite plane and since i don't have a airbrush the painting would look poo-poo on such large scale

I agree the Italeri ships are good. You do have to put some work into them to account for different ships and time periods. You also have to get some skywave or Fujimi aircraft to replace the kit ones. Finally, the addition of Gold Medal Modles photo etch and you can create a stunning work of art.

My $0.02 worth - stay away from Fujimi. I just bought their 1:700 CL Jintsu and BB Kongo...Jintsu had some serious fit issues, and the detail was garbage. Nicely molded hull and superstructure, but the armament and other fiddly bits are horrible. It's looking decent, but it's gonna take a lot more work to even approach a Tamiya.

Now, the Kongo - completely unbuildable. Literally. The hull had a crazy S-curve in it out of the box, and is, in my opinion, impossible to fix. Flash everywhere. Out of scale everything. Zero detail on anything. I can't even use the kit for spares. Maybe it'll make a nice shipwreck.

It will be a cold day downunder before I buy anything Fujimi. Maybe when I run out of Aoshima/Hase/Tamiya/Skywave kits. So never.

Stu.

I disagree with that comment. Many fine big scale shipmodelers swear by brush painting. Also, a quarter-scale Havoc cries out for a nice airbrushed finish! Faded panels, soft camo lines...I can just hear the compressor now!
Anyway, pick what you want, have fun, finish it and post those pics!

With the ship there would be quite a few straight lines to do and it would not look good. while a 1:48th planes straight lines I can manage with my brush & time.
I manage planes without an airbrushed finish quite easily with time. (:-)
