Hello Joe, yes It is a great model, but I tkink that this scale is a little small in order to make the details. Joe what is your opinion about this?
Happy new year Joe.

Hello again Miguel,

The new Revell VII D is set to be scaled at 1:144. That is not
much difference compared to the older 1:125 scale boat that
we work on. So super detailing will not be a problem, in my
opinion.
The model will actually be longer by a few inches because
the VII D was 9 metres longer than the type VII C, as to
accomodate the 5 mine shaft, aft of the tower.

This scale is actually OK to me because right now all the
other German u-boats available are in this scale and
when shown together, we will see the size relation between
the types.

Revell Type XXI scale 1:144
ICM Type XXIII scale 1:144

Trumpeter is also planning to release Gato/Balao subs
in the same scale.

What would be very interesting is for Revell to retool a
Type VII and of course release a Type IX all in 1:144.

What a submarine collection that would make!!!

I love the 1:72 scale big brothers, but man they will take
up an incredible amount of space!!!

Talk to you soon.
Joe

It seems an unusual choice for a kit as I think only 6 Type VIID were built; then again, this variant hasn't previously been released and I am looking forward to seeing it in the shop.

It will be interesting to see if Revell will produce other variants on this theme.

Yes, Yes, Ok, sorry Joe, I'm thinking in the scale 1:400, I see this scale 1;144 is similar to the scale 1:125. OK, I'm very happy....this year is the best, of course.

When to you think these models will be availables???

Hello Miguel and Ian2,

One source on the net states that Revell plans the
release of the Type VII D in 1:144 scale in May 2006.

This boat is all new tooling! and I am hoping that this means the same details and quality as their 1:72
scale Type VII C.

Also since there is new tooling involved, I also hope
that this means that we will be seeing other variants
of the type VII in this scale.

It would be nice to display this boat next to the
Revell Type XXI and the ICM Type XXIII since they
are all in the same scale.

Also to be released sometime this year by Trumpeter,
Gato/Balao US fleet subs 2 different variants and in
1:144 !!!

PS like I said in a previous thread: WE NOW NEED A TYPE IX in 1:144 and 1:72 of course.

Talk to you soon
Have a nice day and happy modelling.

Welcome to what us Allied armor modelers have to face on a regular basis. They'll make kits of some German tank that only had two real examples of, in real life, while something like a U.S. halftrack that was made in the tens of thousands is ignored. Or every kit maker in the world makes the Bismark in any scale you can think of, but try to find a really good HMS Hood that you can afford.

Ok, rant over. Now as to these new 1/144 boats I'm kind of excited by them. As Joe said the 1/72 boats are great, but they take up soooo much space, and they're so hard to sneak past SWMBO, :-) , I just can't see myself making any. 1/144 is much more reasonable.

Nice modell though, but what a price??!!

Working link

Yes, Fine Art Models are great models, but custom made - not a kit - so you have to pay a lot!
For that price I could get a Andrea 1/32 VII-C Beast
