Does anyone have any details surrounding the German Cruiser Komet being involved in action during 1942, between France and the Channel Islands.
Thanks, John

Wow, learn something new every day. I would have sworn that no German AMC, armed merchant cruiser, ever fought in the English Channel, but lo and behold the Komet did. The only information I've found so far is that she was sunk in action with several British MTBs on October 10th 1942. She was sunk by torpedoes from the MTB 236.
I certainly want to look up more about this action.

Thanks Rodger & Kenny,
Both
I was under the impression that the shore batteries on Alderney (Channel Isles) also had a hand in the Komet's sinking?
Kenny, the 2nd & 3rd Link didn't work but I'll try again.
Regards, John

John, I think all the Channel islands were under German control after the fall of France. I don't see how their shore batteries would have been involved, except to fire on the British MTBs.

Ooops! My mistake Rodger.
I meant the firefight between the MTBs and the Shore guns.
Any idea what Batteries were involved? I know they had some large guns ashore like 10cm, 15cm & even 17cm. It would be interesting to know the range involved.
Thanks & Regards, John

Post has a double http:// in it. When I took the first http:// out, it still came up with "page not found."
