Greeting all,
Just wanted to step aboard. Not sure that I understand the makeup of the site yet, but it looks impressive and from what I've read so far about the proposed structure will be most useful.
Looks like I'll have to study the flags and learn some more about ship layout and 'Old Salty Dog' language. (ha ha).
I do miss the 'Shipping Section' on the old site, I suppose one just gets used to things.
As the sites obvously still in transition I'm sure it will be fine once I find my way around.
On a more relevant topic has anyone yet built the Italeri ELCO 80 Torpedo Boat PT 596?
I was wondering about this kit, but being a land lubber am I right in assuming (a very dangerous thing to do) that it's an American PT Boat, as my only knowledge of these carft is via John Wayne and JFK.
Can anyone direct me to a link where I could read up on this boat.
Anyway, congrats on the new site, hope all goes well.
Cheers, time to step ashore!!
Al

Ahoy, Matie!
First off, Al, Welcome to Model Shipwrights!
Yes, the site is VERY young at this point but I guarantee you, mate, there is only one direction that we will be going, and that is upwards! As the weeks go by the site will get better and better, as the opportunity to develop and grow is at a premium point right now, with the newly formed sight...It truly is an exciting thing!!!
As far as your question goes, mate, I'll give you a couple links to get you started, there is alot of info out there on the web about these magnificent boats...first, here's one about the real boat:
ELCO 80
And here's alittle something about the kit:
Squadron
Hope this helps ya out some, Al, and enjoy the site, hope to see more of you in the fututre!

Hi Gunny,
Thanks for the links to both sites. I'll add that to my reference folder.
The boat is going on my list for a summer build.
Cheers

Hi Alan
Glad you decided to wet your feet

Things around here are starting to take shape - as Mark so well pointed out, so it's just a question of time until this turn out to be a smooth operation

I guess that we are a "little" early to get the hands on Italeri's Elco...
but just to tease you a little bit and for your pleasure (and also to keep the interest) here's what Joseph Neumeyer was able to do with the Lindberg 1/32 PT-Boat and some HR Products Fittings:
Patrol Torpedo Boat 157
It sure makes you think, doesn't it?
Keep in thouch - don't be a stranger!

Hi skipper,
The sites starting to look good.
That's one awe-some dio, there's enough there to keep me thinking and buildng for about the next 10 years. Thanks for posting that., some work went into that one.
I haven't forgotten about posting my sad attempts at the British LCs - but I still need to source a camera and some bright and sunny weather.
Would you class DUKW s and LVT as 'boats' are are they strictly armour/softskins? I was down at the National Archives in London doing some research into 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry and it turned out they were one of the units who converted to LVTs for the Rhine Crossing. I picked up a lot of stuff about the vehicles, rafts, loads and so on which was very interesting. Just about to start work on a couple of DUKWs while I'm off work this week.
The ELCO is probably going to be a summer project but I'm going to give it a go unless they bring out a 1/35 British MTB before hand!!! (ha ha). I still have to find a home for those 20mm cannon I brought for the LCM - remember that one!! (ha ha).
Thanks for replying to Brandon, he turned up on the armour site so I directed him over here.
Glad to know all's well, all the best and thanks again for posting that it sure gives one something to think about.
Cheers
