I know it is a strange topic but anyway.
Has there been any atempt to locate and " explore" some of the sunken battle ships, carriers or cruisers of the WWII , like JAMATO, MUSASHI, Akagi, ...
I know there has been discovering of Bismarck, Hood, and Yorktown, but what about other interesting ships that where sunked during WWII ( battles around Guadalcanal , Leyte gulf, .... )are there any god internet sites of it?

I understand Yamato has been found and photographed. The one thing that stands out to me was when they photoed the Japanese flower insignia on the bow, and used geometry to figure out it's size, to proove it was in fact Yamato.
Ballard found Kirishima, upside down, off Guadalcanal, and went looking for Kaga, but couldn't find her. Somebody else found a good size piec of Kaga.

A PIECE of Kaga has been found, not the ship herself. If you read "Shattered Sword", the new book on Midway, you'll find that Kaga was truly shatterd by fire and explosions before sinking, with VERY large parts of the hangar decks sides and flight deck being blown off the ship. One of these is what has been found.
Yamato, yes, back in the 1990s. HMS Hood has also been found. Ballard found and photographed a number of ships in Ironbottom Sound around Guadalcanal, including Kirishima, Atlanta, Astoria or Qunicy, and several USN & IJN destroyers; you'll find those in his book, "The Lost Ships of Guadalcanal." Yorktown has also been found and photographed, as have some of the WW1 British battlecruisers lost at Jutland.

I didn't realize that the guys who did Combined Fleet, that I referenced above, also did Shattered Sword. That book is on my short list of books to be picking up. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Hi Rodger,
Shattered Sword is a superb read. If you've read any of John Lundstrom's books, this is of the same quality. Excellent research, fine writing--you'll enjoy it.

Don't forget the Saratoga off Bikini Atoll. And U-166 off the coast of Louisiana.

Shattered Sword is high on my list of books to get. It has gotten terriffic reviews in the Naval Institute Proceedings (sorry Jeff ) and sheds some new light on some "facts" about the battle that turn out not to be exactly what everyone has come to believe all these years.
