I have been writing a review for the Hasegawa IJN Mikasa, and have quickly assembled a review that is a lot more comprehensive than your standard model kit review. My review begins with the origins of the ship and progresses with the construction and the battle history of the Mikasa.

The dilemma I face is whether to submit the three separate reviews for the products I have purchased individually. Or to encase them under one review, possibly beginning a new type of review. A review based not on a model but on a specific ship, listing all the available models and aftermarket sets. This could be set up in a fashion, where any of the editors could in the future add to the review based on the possibility of additional models and or AM sets as they become available. This would allow any future user of this site to quickly look up a certain ship, and see what is available to them.

Hi Frank!
I'll give you my two cents worth, whether they're of any worth or not, but here goes, mate!
If I'm reviewing a particular model kit, regardless of the subject, I always review the model kit itself, as per the manufacturers instructions, WITHOUT the addition of ANY alterations, or A/M accessories, to keep the integrity of the kit build intact.
That way it's fair to the reader who is using your review to maybe base his choice of whether to buy this kit or not... If in fact there is a problem in the build, whether it be excessive trimming, or the need for additional styrene or putty needed to fill up a gap or hole, or whatever, I always document the problem with pictures, and duly note it in the product review...
Your idea for a "new" type of review is a good one, combining products together to make one "complete and sweet" ship build feature of a specific subject, while at the same time giving seperate reviews for each of the products used to complete this feature...could be done as a whole or in segments, for that matter, and would definitely make a great addition to the database for future reference to other modelers.
I give your thoughts a thumbs up mate, you got my vote, but the staff will have to make the decision that counts...Mr. Starkweather, Mr. Matos??

Hi Frank, Mark and all

It is so good to have different point of views
In this particular case, the IJN Mikasa, I would make the review including the AM sets, but list them and describe them as chapters... mainly because they are dedicated only for this model.

On a situation where we have, for instance, a railling set, that could be used for all the IJN vessels, I would state it but make a different review for the set.

Just my opinion - but Frank - you are the master here!
You are writing it and you have full power (until I edit it) :-)

Keep up the excellent work
Skipper
