Hello guys.
I just thought of something and figured I better ask.

Did the hornet have her number (or any identification for that matter) painted on the deck at the battle of midway?

I’m thinking she didn’t but none of my reference pictures that I have of her show the deck.

Hi Jake!
I think you're right, mate...all the images I've seen of the ship in that time period had common deck markings but no number...I'm going to double check a couple reference points right now.

Thanks Gunny.

By the way if you have any I wouldn’t mind seeing them. As I said the reference pictures I have don’t show the deck.

No deck numbers. IIRC, those didn't come into use until 1943.

Hey Neighbor!

These are the only two that I have that shows the deck (as little that IS shown!) of the Hornet in the early years, Jacob...you can't really see much-I'll keep looking around, though, mate!

Well, it looks like the Doolittle pic seals the deal. No deck numbers. As soon as the Hornet and Big E got back from Tokyo, the were out to Midway.

Thanks guys.

Yep that pretty much clears things up.

And thanks for the pictures Gunny. Just saved them both with my reference pictures.
