Hi,

Having just switched over to the "Dark Side", (I have always modelled aircraft up to now) can anyone help with information regarding line drawings of Type VII U-Boots. Having seen the excellent work that you chaps have carried out I would like to have ago at detailing/improving the exterior / hull of the old Revell U-99 kit that is at present resting in my loft space. I would be happy to give my email address to any one who can send that type of material required or books that you recommend to assist me.

To be honest I will continue modelling A/C but Subs will also be on my list from now on, I did not realise how much fun and pleasure you could get from modelling what I always thought of as a target, if I don`t watch out I could find myself buying a flat top, NURSE BRING PETE HIS TABLETS.

Thanks in advance

Hey Pete. welcome to the salty side. I've got some line drawings from Squadron's Uboats in Action book. I'll scan them in and post them this afternoon.

Hello Pete,
Welcome to MSW-ARMORAMA. You will find lots of super nice
people here and enjoy the site.

Now on to u-boats. There is no specific book that I have come
across, that says it all. Refererral to as much material as you
can find, is your best bet. Here is a list of the best material that
I have come across. There are also some sites with great
reference material but then it will all depend on which variant
and which boat you want to build. It was not uncommon for 2
Type VII's, built in different yards to look somewhat different.
( ie flooding vent arrangement and conning tower detail.)
Here is the list:

Type VII u-boats Warship Pictorial No:27
U-boats in action Squadron/Signal
The German u-boat VII Heinz Nowarra
U-boat war Timothy Kutta

The Type VII u-boat * David Westwood
Type VII u-boats * Robert C. Stern
Wolfpack * Gordon Williamson
U-boats under the Swastika * Jak P.Mallmann Showell
DasBoot * Andrea Press
The U-Boat * Eberhard Rossler

*Hardcover

So as can seen the research can be extensive but very
educational and certainly a lot of fun.

If you have a specfic question , I will most certainly try to
help. you can also e-mail me.

Have a nice day and happy modelling,
Gunny

Hi Pete, Welcome to Model Shipwrights, mate!
We're glad to have you over here on the salty side, my friend, and trust me, shipbuilding IS an addictive thing! I myself like to build a little of everything, but my true love will always be with shipbuilding...Look around, mate, check out the ongoing and upcoming campaigns, think about joining one (or two, three! ) because there's no greater way to meet a bunch of great people than to participate in a campaign or group build...We're a great bunch of guys over here, who love to talk about our hobby, and trust me, there is a tremendous amount of talent and knowledge lurking about, here! Don't be afraid to ask about anything! Listen, to add to Kenny and Joes replies to your question, check out my review on the home page of MSW for "The Encyclopedia of U-Boats", it's a great book with a TON of useful information and photo's in it...and again, mate, welcome aboard, hope to see more of ya!

Petes' words the other week.

"I think I'm going to do a "U" boat, I won't do all the detail like I do on my planes, just a quick OOB build"

Pete mate, I you you couldn't stick to OOB :-) :-) :-) #:-)

See you Monday

That would be great, you can email them direct to the address that can be found in "My Profile", or to my work at :- [email protected]

I could really do with some scale plans of a type VII, but happy to receive any information.

To be honest I had intended to build the old girl out of the box but then I saw your work and knew I had to have a go at doing the same if possible, yours will be a hard act to follow I must say.

I must say that its good to be a member of a site where people want to assist a new guy, the help I have received only makes me wish I had found this site years ago, the only other site where I have enjoyed the same experienced is the "Modelling Aircraft of the VVS "site, it makes you want to model, if I can ever be of help to any one please just ask.

Thanks in advance

Pete

Thanks Peter for your comments about my u-boat. Thanks, donīt worry if you like anything about this revell scale 1/125 model building, you can send me all the questions, but....remember.... Joe and Skipper and others people in this forum.. are the teachers.
They have helped me very much.
OK, I can send you any information (book) about u-boat types, but I donīt remember if in this book is enclosed scale plans.

Hi, Pete and Happy day
