Very interesting reading....
I also took the time to read some of the other stories...

Very interesting. It's it amazing how events from 60 plus years ago can still affect lives.
Thanks for sharing.

Somewhat on the subject, there was a series on Masterpiec Theater probably some 20 or more years ago, entitled "Danger, UXB" which dealt with the Royal Engineer teams which defused unexploded bombs which were found immediately after the raids.
Great series and worth getting if you can find it.

I remember UBX well..... loved the show, although I don't remember much about it.
Was on Sunday night, and I watched it at work...... :-)

I also remember Danger UXB, and in fact that was the first thing I thought about when I read this post. That show was one of my first exposures to Masterpiece Theatre, and I loved it. I know it's out on DVD, and I'll bet public libraries would have it, if you didn't want to pop $50 or more on the boxed set.

I remember Danger UXB. It was a great series. Good dialog.
Don't know the main actors name but if I remember correctly he starred a short time later in a PBC series as "The Scarlet Pimpernel" which was equally as good.

The actor who played the LT is none other than Anthony Andrews, who did indeed follow up with not only "The Scarlet Pimpernel", but "Brideshead Revisited" just to name a few.
I especially enjoyed the interplay between the LT and his SGT, played by Maurice Roeves. The training of the "leader" undertaken by his senior NCO, and the very different leadership roles between officer and NCO were quite well done.
