Ahoy Fellow Submariners,

Here is a first look at the new Type VII-D by Revell(Germany).
The article is in German but the photos say it all. Looks like
an awesome kit and in 1:144 scale !

Enjoy
Have a nice day and happy modelling

Hi Joe!
Does look awesome, mate! This article makes me wish that I would have taken more German classes in high school! Thanks for sharing, we'll see about maybe getting an English news release!

It certainly does.... this is what I got with my get-by German (from the summary):

In the summary, the advantages listed are a very good instruction sheet, complete paintschemes for 6 boats and a well detailed kit in general.

The only big setbacks mentioned in the end are missing isolation blocks (??? not sure if I translated that one right) and a missing Y-mast making setting up the antenna difficult.

Apparently a lot of bang for your buck (fun factor), and based on the instructionsheet the reviewer suspects a VII/C is in the works as well.

Hope this helps a little...

Harm

From the bigger parts, what stood out to me: Deckpieces fit very well in the hull (nearly flawless). No obvious mistakes in the smaller parts...

Hello Harm,
Thanks for the trans....the insolation blocks in this scale should not be a problem. I have successfully
used white glue and worked it in layers. The effect
turned out quite convincing in 1:125 scale so at 1:144
there should be no problem. Also the Y harness for
the antennas is easy to make.

Have a nice day and happy modelling.

Hi All,

A big thanks to Joe for finding and sharing those pictures of Revells latest U-Boot offering, really glad it looks so good, I placed my pre order with my local Model shop 2 weeks ago.

Have just started work on a 1/400 scale Type IX (or so the box art says by Mirage, small by goes together well so far.

Good night from Bristol

Hello Miguel, Como Estas? Once again, Bravissimo, you did an excellant job on your U-552.
I happy to see that the decals and the badge are displayed with the model. Again will be glad
to help with any new projects....

Had to take care of some urgent family matters in the last
couple of months, but I am now back in action.

Revell Germany announced the release of their Type VII-D
for the month of May...I still have not seen it here in Montreal
but I suspect that by June should be in our Montreal shops.
From the pictures in the review, the model looks just
beautifully detailed and I hope Revell Germany has a few
more surprizes for us this year .
A Type IX-B or C in 1:144 or even 1:72 would be just
great.

Have not decided yet what to build for DDD2. I must first
finish my VII-C/41 in 1:125.

What about you?

Talk to you soon
Have a nice day and happy modelling.
Joe

Hi, Joe, thank you for your support with my model. Yes my next proyect is an aircraft BF-109 E Spanish civil war version, but I'm thinking to build the ICM u-boat type XXIII in 1/144 scale. I hope your comments about this model.
Skipper has a review of this u-boat. I love it. With the half of his results I will be very happy.
Thanks Joe, I'm very happy that you love my model. Thanks, and I hope to see again.

Hola Miguel, De Nada...no problemo!

Hope all is well. I have purchased the XXIII in 1:144 too.
Skipper's review helped and he did a very nice build with
this boat too. I will build it at some point.

For now I have started on my DDD2 entry...U-35 in 1:125
scale using the Revell U-99 kit. It will be alot of work but
I like the challenge and will hopefully create a nice U-35.

I am considering painting it with the neutrality strips it
carried during the Spanish Civil War...the decision not final.

Have fun with your new projects and keep in touch...will
be glad to assist with any new projects...don't forget I am
primarily a submarine modeller especially U-Boats, so I
do not know much about aircraft.

Have a nice day and happy modelling...amigo!

Hi, Joe, I need your experience. I am thinking to buy the model CMK 1/72 type XXIII insteed the ICM model to 1/144 scale. I know, it is very expensive, but I see the review of this u-boat with resin and photo-etched details. I need your comments.
Thanks

Holla Miguel,
How are you?
I bought both!
The 1:144 is a beautiful little jewel and of course big brother
in 1:72 scale is just awesome. I paid a lot of money here in
Canada for the larger kit but it is worth the money.
It contains a very well molded plastic kit with resin and PE.
The only thing with my kit is that periscope (resin) is a bit
bent, but I am sure it can be straightened.
If you like u-boats then you will enjoy the ICM/MPM kits!
Now as far as accuracy....I must read and research but since they are recent releases, I am sure they did their
homework...

PS Not official yet but they have indicated that they intend to
release a Type II in 1:72 in the future.

Have a nice day and happy modelling,
Joe

Holla Miguel, Hello Joe and the rest of the crew too

For MPM 1/72 Typ XXIII my advice would be to find out turned alluminum periscopes - the only thing I'll add to the excellent MPM kit

I'll post the link for the turned periscopes as soon as I can remember where to find them

Keep safe,
Skipper

PS: Thanks for the compliments on the ICM u-boot

Thanks Rui and Joe, therefore I can be sure that the MPM u-boat model is a great model, is that? Rui, I hope this link. Here in Spain the cost for this model is aprox. 70 Euros (with shipping cost). I hope to order it soon. When I will finish the BF-109E model, my next model will be the type XXIII.
Joe when you had any information about the 1/72 type VII, send it , please.
Ah Rui, fantastic your review about the ICM XXIII u-boat. It is fantastic. Thanks for your comments Rui and Joe.
"Saludos" from Spain. and Take be care.

Hi, Rui, How are you? Thanks for this link. Yes it is a great support. I'm going to search this product in order to see any photograph. If you know someone photograph, please send it. For this model (1/72 u-boat type XXIII) I have seen a review in this link (by Chris wauchop). the link is
http://hsfeatures.com/features04/uboattypexxiiicw_1.htm

In this review, I donīt know.... but it is possible that the periscope has been modified.

Thanks Rui. Regards.

Holla Miguel

The Chris Wauchop U-boot is very good (also featured in last Tamiya Modeling Magazine) but it has some hints that Chris isn't a usual submarine modeler.

With all the respect that I owe him for his work, he could have donne a better homework and find out that:
- If the model is supposed to represent a submarine under way (ence the Schnorkel up, and periscope too) the flag poles wouldn't be placed, as well as the deck raillings.
- The binnoculars would be placed only when firing torpedoes emerged, a most unusual situation for the last days of the war, and also should be left out...

This creates a mixed features model, with both docked, emerged and submerged features shown at the same time. Ok, I can accept I am being too picky, but...

Looking at the model (without being picky) it looks very good. Good construction, good painting and weathering.

Thanks for sharing the link

Thanks Rui, it is true, the situation is not clear. Anyway the construction and weathering is perfect. The horizontal black line is very beautifull. It is probably in the futur I will try to paint it with the same colours.
Rui I think that the paint colours are the same than your model.
Thanks rui.
