Hello to you all

My hobby is modelling AFV specially the Germans during the WWII. Howver when I was a younger boy (long time ago) I build Warships specially the Airfix/Revell/Aurora models

When I was 16 I went to see just like the whole family did so I stopped the modelworld. Since about 5 years I started again but as said with the AFV. We moved from Holland to the Belgium Ardennes and last week I was in en modelshop in BAstogne were I bought 4 submarines!! and yesterday I bought the Snowberry all models were of Revell.

I started with the U99 has any experience with this model?? It seems that the quality is not so good as the others its a model what I think abouth 25 years old. The new U boats the VII C type en the Atlantic conversion are great and I cant wait till the moment that I can start to build it. The last one is the VIID the mine laying type this looks also of better quality even the drawings are much better

Were can I find some photo's of the U99 did somebody build it already and do somebody knows a good website??

Look forward to hear from you alle and nice to be on this forum

Greetings

Wim

Hi Brandon,
Welcome to Model Shipwrights!
I've built the 1/125 Revell U99. with terrific luck, mate...which one have you had experience with?...I no longer have the model (or any pictures!), but if you Google search "Revell U-99" you'll get a great amount of really good sites about the kit...

Gunny

When coming home I first looked into the bigger ones the VII C and the Atlantic conversion they are very good and the quility is absolutely great to say. The VII D is also good but when looked into the box and saw all that extra overdosis plastic I was thinking back of the sixties when we had all of this

Cannot understand that Revell is still producing this kind of bad material a shame of their name

At the moment I have good experience with Tamiya, Academy and Dragon I hope that Revell will bring more of this kind of ships and also the cargo shipos of the famous convoys of the WWII

thanks for replying and certainly will look to REvell U (( website

thanks and

Allô Wim and as Mark said Welcome to Modelshipwrights

I also would like to add two examples, displayed here on MSW, build with U-99 as the base model.
A lot of work and references are needed but this shows that the model is "workable" and a good basis:

Miguel Palao's U-552

Joe Passasseo's U-96

As for your four u-boats purchase, my suggestion is for you to built the U-99 OOB (out of the box) and then procede to the new Typ VII-D
You'll see the difference in four decades of mould making in accuracy and detail
The point on making U-99 is for you to test your new techniques, a little different from AFV models

Any help that you'll need you can post them here, the crew will surelly be helpfull
And a suggestion (one more): why don't you join Dive! Dive! Dive! 2 Campaign?

It's a submarine only campaign / group built
Just a thought

Hi, Brandon, and welcome to this site. I hope to see your model (the u-99 of Revell) with some photographs. It is a good model. If you want my advice, it is probably that you will be need some modifications in the model for to make it more real. I donīt know if the type VIID model of revell is much better detailed. I hope to see it (if anyone have this model, it might include it with images), but you can see a Revell review (Joe's link). If the model is this (Revell's review), I think that it is a great model to buy it.

Regards, from Spain

thanks Joe, I'm a bit late.

If you like you could use the free image upload solution "imageshack" in order to host the photograph. See this link http://imageshack.us/

Bye, and see you soon.
