Greetings all,

I've been having a re-think about the 2 LCMs I aquired recently as a result of a campaign being set up to run on trains over on the other forums.

I'd like to do a British Dockyard scene with a quey, railtrack running onto it, maybe a crane and a couple of AA post to use the AA 20mm that cost a fair bit. Tthe 2 LCMs tide up side by side loading stores etc.

The quey would have a ramp to one side for loading vehicles and a sandy area leading back to a sea wall.

I'm thinking tyde out or low so I was wondering about scale. Any thoughts, photos etc that might help. Alos any fishing pots and quey side stuff you may have come across as Am products that could be added.

There would seem to be some build issues re the Trunpter LCM in terms of size and certain fittings and I'll need to post about those later, having just finished re-reading the comparison on PMMS again which is probably why I bought the Italerie kit first time arounnd.

All thoughts and comments, ideas and photos would be greatly welcome.

Cheers

Al

Alan, I've been researching quaysides and docksides for a long time with the project I'm working on.
I've googled piers, docks, quaysides etc. you just have to keep at it till something strikes you as suitable.
Sorry I can't dig into my computer and find this though I'm a bit of a computer Wally when it comes to that.
Also save the 20mm oerlikons for when the Italeri P.T. boats come out.[ if that's who is making them ? ] If I'm not mistaken some P.T.Ss had them mounted foward.
Good luck - Cheyenne

Hi Cheyenne,

There are some good ones on IWM site, I'm more concerned about the scale as I'm not much of a scratch builder.

The Italeri PT Boat looks cool but with all the other stuff I'm trying to work on it might be some time before I get around to that, still if it's out by Christmas who knows!!!

:-) :-) :-)

Cheers

Al

Alan, here is one of my favorite dockside ref. pics., I'd love to do this one day, only with military applications, it has all sorts of modeling possibilities, a freighter, what looks like boxcars, barges, [ barges .... we don't need no stinking barges ] , waterfront facades, etc.
If I remember correctly this is Rouen [ ?, I also don't know what year but a good guess would be late 20s early 30s ], a French port. If not, someone please correct me, usually my ignorance is only surpassed by my capacity for .... beer.
There are no cranes, but I'll work on that also, and also find some more cool dockside stuff.
Go to my gallery and bring this up full screen it's cool.

Hi Cheyenne,

Thanks very much for the picture. Apologies in not replying sooner I must have missed the post, probably doing something with my Shermans :-) :-) .

That would make a great setting. I've decided on a name for it anyway which will be 'Pier 51' (very original LOL, LOL), but I like the sound of it.

The plan is for the pier to extend out into the sea, with the rail tracks running along the top. I don't know if they will load up but I have a couple of rough sketches of the general idea.

The boats will sit below the pier height at low water, with a small sandy beach leading to a sea wall.

I'll see if i can post a sketch.

Thanks again.

Al

Edit: Sorry I'll have to rescan them and save in a different format.

Howdy fellas,

Nice idea about the dockside dio Alan...will this be in 1/72nd scale I assume? I also looked into an entire quayside dio, only my plan revolved around a german submarine setting. It was in 1/35th scale and would have taken up a goodly portion of my garage

Best of luck with yours!

Hey cheyenne...had a look thru your gallery again....got a question, what's this?.....ya wanna elaborate? ;-)

Hi Gordon,

Nope, 1/35 mate - will consist of 2 USN LCM 3 and a British LCP (L), rolling stock and a 'Wee Boat' :-) :-) :-)

BTW that's Cheyennne's mighty project, there are a few posts over on the armour site that make very interesting reading. It a class build that's for sure.

Cheers

Al
