Afternoon all,

While I'm waiting on some stuff to dry I though I share some pics of the progress so far on the 'Wee Boat'

I still have not figure out what the other part was for but have cut it down and might add a rudder :-) :-) :-)

Excuse the pictures 'flash' does strange things.

NB: First two pictures removed for Gallery Space - see below for updates.

Still some weathering to do but comments welcome.

Cheers

Hi Alan,

The interior wood certainly looks very realistic. Nice job.

Hi Murdo,

The wood has turned out pretty good. It looks better as the 'flash' makes things a bit stark.

Here's a few updates. I've added a decal for identification and changed the orrs slightly to be a bit more British. Darkened down a few sopts I missed first time around. I think this will do, just need to add a few bit of stowage and might put some half tyres on the bow and stern.

Edit: 2nd Picture Removed for Gallery Space.

Any comments or suggestions are most welcome.

Cheers

Hi Gunny,

Thanks for that. I was wondering if I should do a little chipped paint on the exterior paint work.

What do you guys think, is she too clean looking on the outside???

Cheers

Personally, I wouldn't chip the paint. Don't do it just for the sake of it.

The boat could have belonged to somebody who would look after it very well, especially if his livelihood depended on it. These wee boats were painted thickly and fairly regularly as waterproofing.

As for too clean... Looks fine to me. It looks slightly faded but not battered into submission.

Hi Murdo,

Yip, I think I'll leave it as is, fishermen and the like usually look after their boats, so faded but not battered is probably right.

Thanks mate, she can stay the way she is. That's the first one done, but it's a start. :-) :-) :-)

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your comments. I hope to have the base by next week and will then be looking for ideas and suggestions for material for the pier. It's going to be stone/concrete so I'm thinking balsa covered with filler. I can work with balsa and it's fairly easy to conrtol the build/shape etc but I'm open to ideas.

If I can re-scan the very poor sketchs I've made to a different format, I'll post them on site for comment and suggestions.

Don't hold your breath though at the rate I build it will be quite some time LOL, LOL, also some personal stuff it likely to get in the way - priorities in life etc.

The deals almost done for the 3rd boat so things are moving along, be it all slowely LOL, LOL.

I've sourced some goods wagons for the pier for Southern Railways, and although they will be 0 scale 7mm, I think the variety in size of these will mean you won't be able to tell the difference. When I've built one and had a chance to set it beside some 1/35 figures I'll have a clearer idea.

My post for old unused/unwanted tyres has produced a good selection, so at least I've got some very useful additions there.

Don't know when it might get finished but I'll keep you posted as things develop. No doubt I'll be back looking for ideas, comment etc. LOL, LOL - along with my other projects and on going build it should fit into the 5 year plan or was that the 10 year plan??? :-) :-) :-) :-)

I've more or less settled on a name ' Pier 51'.

Cheers

Like the boat Al - I agree with the others that she looks good as is. It's always easy to do 'just a little bit more' weathering or whatever, and end up overdoing it I find.

Hi Graham and greeting all,

Thanks for you comments, this was my first real attempt at a large area of natural wood. I wanted a well used but maintained boat and it was a good one to try in my first resin build of any size.

Being a waterline kit I'll have to reposition her on the dio as I originally intended for her to be beached, but no matter it was the only game in town as they say.

Cheers

Al
