Wow. Now all we need is some aftermarket sails to update the 1/144 scale kit. Hey, anybody know how to get a hold of Nautilus Models? :-) :-)

Shipmates,
Just hold on, guys. I have no doubt much much more will be coming in the way of aftermarket goodies for this kit. I've read on other forums, the "late war" boat will probably be released before Christmas. After that occurs, I can imagine a real parade of goodies. Remember, we can take the basic hull up through the 70's with the USN, and 90's with other Navy's ! You'll have all the Guppy conversions among others.

In my opinion, Revell blew it, and Trumpeter has no idea what a winner they have. Most folks I know do not have the room for a 50" plus model. But cut that in half, then it is a different story. With all the conversions and long history of these Boats, I think it will be an interesting winter !

Of course, Revell may realize it now. I've heard the sales of the 1/144th Type VII are going extremely well. So what does the crew think of this ?

hey Bruce

ive got the Revel VII-d in 1/144 , and it builds into a very nice model, but still it doesn't exactly look as impressive as a fully built, fully weathered 1/72 VII-c mastodont, which really turns people's heads.
Just image what a fully built Gato will do!!!

I can't wait for it to arrive!!
In my opinion, REvell didn't blew it. Ok, they failed to release their Gato as first, but me from my side am holding back to buy the 1/144 and rather buy the 1/72 the second it gets here.

and in my opinion, although they are very long subs, it's not that difficult to find a space for it, even if this means you have to put up a new shelf on the wall and place it there. Now if we were talking about new issues of 1/72 corvettes this would be a whole other game!!

Ahoy all,

Yes, I do agree with you Bruce somewhat in that a Gato/Balao in 1:72 scale
is a very large boat but if the sub is to have the level of detail that ROG gave
us with the VIIC and VIIC/41...then I will find the space somewhere in my
house. I am primarily modelling the u-boats but since ROG is bringing to
us some amazing never seen before kits... even in this large scale... well
I am just thrilled!

Who knows what's next.....a Type IX or a British sub?

BTW Special Navy (ICM) who brought us the Type XXIII in 1:144 and 1:72
had announced plans for a Type II in 1:72 at some point.

I need to get a bigger house!
:-)

Have a nice day and happy modelling!

A Brit boat would be nice - they seem to be very thin on the ground in any scale

I agree, Rip, 100%! I too would like to see more RN subjects about, (that is, without needing a full scratchbuild make-over), available to us shipwrights.
Honestly though, when you seriously think about the amount of new releases in the shipbuilding category as compared to other modeling genre's, ANY type of new release is welcome, know what I mean?
For instance, I just received the Great Model Webstore's newsletter this morning, and Armor and Aircraft new release categories outnumber the warships by at least 10 to 1. . .I guess this argument lies hand in hand with the current argument that is being debated in the Armorama forums, about the imbalance of Axis Vs. Allied figure sets available.

Sorry for slipping off topic, mates, back to business, John Snyder just sent me an additional news announcement, following with the same subject matter as this news story ;

"You want to completely fit out your Gato's armament, right? Well now you
can. We've just ordered production on

PE 14409 1/144 USN Mk.14 21" Torpedo; and,

PE 7239 1/72 USN Mk.14 21" Torpedo

You can pre-order now (or you can as soon as Dave adds them to the website).
We'll announce cost as soon as we can.

Cheers,
John Snyder

I don't want to offend anyone, and I see the logic, but to me, 1:72 is about the minimum for real detail. YES, it requires moving furniture and/or negotiations with the wife, but come on, a 1:72 GATO? I'll use the garage if necessary. I've just got to have and display at any cost! 50+" is big and inconvenient, but it will be musem quality!

Obviously we have to limit how many 1:72 boats we have, and I'll be stuck forever at 2 (well, with some major wrecking and selling body parts in the future I might squeeze a max of 4), but they will be real treats, conversation pieces and a bit of history in more ways than one.

I hear ya, Wink!

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm gonna fit these up and coming 1/72 scale beauties in my home without the Mrs. tossing me out!
