Ok I still havn’t gotten around to ordering that book on colors for Japanese ships so I have to ask you guys again.

What colors would I need to paint the IJF Zuikaku?
This will be for the Leyte Gulf campaign so I believe it will be in its green camo.

Thanks Gunny but I’m looking more for names of the colors.

I’ll have to be ordering my paints off line so I cant match them up with pictures or use any color guides that may come with the ship. (I want to order them at the same time.)

Try going to this link:

It shows the colors you need. For the Zuikaku, you probably want Type 22 for the lightest color and Type 2 for the darker green. White Ensign sells these paints. Model Master made them in acrylic as well, but you might have a harder time finding them, as that line has been discontinued.

Here's another Leyte Gulf carrier in similar colors:

Sorry but I’ve ran into a few more problems geting the colors and am hoping you guys can help me out.

I can’t get a hold of the above colors easly from where I plane on making my order and really don’t want to split the order between 2 places (having to pay more shipping.)

So first off does anyone know if Testors “Imperial Japanese Navy Green” is a match for Type 1 or type 2 camo? I’m thinking it’s the dark type 1 but can’t be sure from the info I have on it.

And anyone know a usably color by Testors (or model master) besides the out of production ones or Tamiya that will work for the other of the above 2 as well as one for the Type 22 camo?

Also I’ve run into to new problems with identifying the colors on the ships deck.

I’m seeing 2 or 3 greens on its deck and I’m not positive what shade they should be. I’m thinking the Dark greens on the 4 corners are Type 2 camo. Correct?
There also appears to be a splotch across the deck about a quarter of the way up from the rear. In some pictures I have it looks to be more Type 2 but on others it looks like a blueish green. Is this Type 2 or a different color and if so what?

And one last question. The main color on the deck looks to be a “bright grassy” green color. It don’t look like anything on the shipcamouflage list. I’m thinking it possibly to be Type 21 but it looks deferent so I don’t know.

Any help with any of these would be greatly appreciated.

And once again sorry for asking so many questions but I don’t want to order the paint and then find out its something else from what I expected.

Thanks.

Jacob, Testor MM Acrylic has all three IJN carrier greens. That is what I used on my Shinano in the using masks tutoral. I got mine from Trident Hobbies.

Thanks Kenny.

I was just able to find these colors on Greatmodels as well now after seeing that.
When I was searching for them I was adding camouflage in the name.
