Does anyone know which boat this is?
I am also wondering if the camouflage scheme is identical on both sides and whether the colors are white and black, or is it light grey and a darker shade of something else?

Thanks!

Ahoy Madwolf,

The only 2 boats that have similar patterns, but not totally exact, that I have seen
in photos are U-136 and U-334. Very hard to confirm because the angles of the
photos are completely different.

As far as colors, I would be inclined on light and dark greys. I have not come
across any reference which mentions black for camo.

I will keep looking as I have many books to go through.

Hope this helps,

Later,
Joe

Hi Ion,

That is U 408, in 1942. The boat patrolled in the Arctic so white is possible. But I agree with Joe - I'd go for the light grey Hellgrau 50. For the dark colour, I reckon it will be the dark grey Dunkelgrau 53 (RAL7016). This is the same colour as the lower hull dark grey Schiffsbodenfarbe III Grau (RAL7016). Notice in the Revell instructions how U 253's dark grey extends from the lower hull up to the upper hull camo - it is likely that U 408's camo did the same, though in a different pattern.

Don't know what the starboard side looked like though.

Cheers,

Dougie

Dougie,
that picture is off a CD and the caption for the picture says it's a boat with similar armament to U-408. Would you mind telling me the source of your information? Thanks!

Hi Ion,

Aw bugger. Sorry, I got that wrong. I've got the disk but didn't read the caption. Indeed you are right that it is a boat with similar armament and not U 408. Once again, my apologies to you.

Merry Christmas,

Dougie
