Ahoy Shipmates
Departure
On the afternoon of December 29 1907 the Fleet finished coaling and immediately weighed anchor to leave the port.
The Fleet was ready to move on to its next port of call.
There were few, if any of the crew who longed to stay. It was the general consensus that everyone hoped for a better liberty at the next port.
Upon departure Governor Jackson chose to ignore his orders and congratulated Admiral Evans on the “irreproachable behaviour of your men… I can assure you that your men established a record hard to equal and impossible to beat”
The Fleets next stop was Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The next instalment will cover the routine on ship.
Regards
Sean
