Its not often I sail into these waters, but I thought I would post some pics of the Academy Roman Warship I have been building.
The scale is apparently 1/250 but I feel it is more like 1/125.
The kit goes together fairly well, with the only downside being the instructions, which are in places fairly vague.
The rigging, while looking rather daunting on paper, is fairly easy to do.
The sails are moulded very well considering they are injected plastic, even if they are out of scale .
The ship was painted with Tamiya and Mr Color acrylics, and a wash of W+N burnt umber oils was used.
A build thread can be found here on the I.P.M.S British Bulldogs Site
Now I can't wait for Revell to release the Viking Longboat .

Very nice Andy. Something a little different here. I think it's great.

Ahoy Andy,
I am more of a sub builder....BUT....I really appreciate seeing anything that sits
in water and your build is....I must say....EXCELLENT!
Great work!
To bad they don't supply a couple of little Romans for the deck, this would
really give a sense of scale.
Cheers for the New Year,
Joe

Looks Great, Andy!
There's something very different in the building of one of the ole' girls such as this one (I REALLY enjoy building ships such as these!).
Thanks for sharing with us mate!
Cheers,
~Gunny

I didn't even know Academy made this kit, until I saw it at Hobby Lobby yesterday. It looked like a real colorful addition to any display case. I think you've done a excellent job on this one. I wouldn't be surprised Skipper is asking you to write a full review of this. Good work.

Hi Andy
Nice galley!
If you look around, you should be able to find the Revell Viking ship, which is quite a good rendition of the Gokstad find. The last time it was issued it was as a ghost ship with luminous paint and big sticker for the sail, which you can happily ignore. One came up on Models for Sale last year.
Emhar threatened their own Gokstad last year, then everything went quiet.

Thanks Guys.
It was the box artwork that captured me to build this. I saw it on the Academy stand at Telford, and thought " I have got to have me one of those " .
I would look great with a few figures on the deck, but the kit doesn't come with any and I haven't had a chance to have a proper look for any.
A review, no chance, I don't know enough nautical terms to be able to do one :-) .
I did try and find out if it was a trireme, galley, warship, eerrr other boat things , but i just got lost in all the information about whats what.
Next up is the Revell Type VII D "Minenleger" ( another kit i fell in love with at Telford ), which I also haven't a clue how to build .
E/Mail away Skipper.
