To those who drilled out flood holes, what color did you paint the boat halves on the INSIDE? How about a fake pressure hull? I noticed the yankee modelworks hull imitation looks to be grey/dark grey (for shading). So is the pressure hull the same color as the boat top? I was thinking of painting the two outer hull pieces black on the inside for better shading effect, or should I use grey too?
Thanks.

The Yankee Modelworks pressure hull is 3 pieces of resin that does require painting. It's a nice piece of work by them. I think that they should be painted grey.
Also take a look at the CMK compartments for the Revell Uboat. Expensive yes, but then they're kits in themselves.

Actually, this is just a paint color question since this is not for my 1/72, but a 1/144 boat. Thanks!

Ahoy Madwolf,
According to standard KM regulations, the pressure hull received
2 coats of anti rust primer and 1 coat of gray. The anti rust primer
was not necessarily red but often was..... not to be confused with
external colors of the hull, as there is no evidence of wartime hull
color being anti fowling red.
Since much of this area became unaccessible after the casing was
completed, heavy deterioration of the the paint was present.
I would suggest a redbrown/gray combo with heavy weathering.
Hope this helps,
Joe

Paint?
Dark grey anti-foul paint might be a good choice, with heavy weathering indeed.
Having used the Yankee Modelworks inner pressure hull set, I'm sorry that I wasted the money on it. It's expensive, and not that great... numerous flaws and things don't line up properly...
One might be better off using a simple piece of curved styrene sheet, or 2" inner dia. foam pipe insulation. Then add some basic shapes from styrene. That's what I plan to do on my next U-boat. That, and extend the inner edges of the saddletanks inside, as Wink Grise has done.

I'm actually working on my 1/144 XXI boat right now, so things are a little different from a 1/72, although I do have the Yankee imitation pressure hull for my future 1/72 built. The hull on the XXI is my first attempt at scratchbuilding. Right now it's just some tubing of different size, but I will try to add exhausts and the conning tower pieces. Thanks for all the help!
