I've got a background in plastic modeling but I really think I'd like to try wood sailing ships. The Latina Bounty Launch kit caught my eye for a few reasons: Its seems (relatively) simple, the price is right, and the subject is of interest to me.

I'm hoping someone out there has seem this kit and might be able to comment.

Also, in general I'm wonding if anyone has any tips for one accustomed to plastic kits (such as the Revel stuff) transitioning into wood.

Thanks in advance.

Check the picture of the plans(from the Greenwich maritime museum) on my work bench, I plan on makeing it from scatch some day.
You'll probably have questions about bending wood and rigging,
but you wont know till you get there.

Ahoy, mates!

Ready to jump into wooden shipbuilding, eh?
Well, my friend, I myself, as well as quite a few others here in these waters, have a fond interest in these old girls. . .
Nothing else really quite like the satisfaction, either!

Latina wooden ship kits are top notch, but unfortunately, mate, never built this one. . .one thing that you must remember when your working in this medium though, and that is take your time. . .wooden shipbuilding is very different than plastic or resin, my friend, but any modeler can build in wood successfully!

My best advice to you is, go for it!
Buy the kit, and do much research on both your kit and the full size subject. . .make a good plan, and get building! Remember, were always here to help you along, mate, and more than willing to do so!!!
Cheers,
~Gunny

Does anyone know if Latina's metal parts are lead-free or not?
