What should I build? U-204 or U-564?

U-564 is your regular looking boat, although a highly successful one. Nothing special about the way it looks (in fact, it wasn't that weathered either), but I do have a lot of pictures and information about it. U-204 on the other hand has a nice light tower with diamond looking camouflage scheme on it and is therefore more popular amongst model builders. Both boats are pretty much identical in configuration. Same tower, 20mm single flak gun and 8.8cm deck gun. So which should I build? Answer and reasoning please.

U-204. I'm a sucker for a good camouflaged boat.

Yep, same here Kenny. I LOVE camouflage, so I will probably go with U-204. And as far as building both, I have not even started building this boat and I have close to $300 spent on it already. I will definetely build an atlantic version later on though.
Thanks!

Hi Ion,

I am currently building this also and since it is such a large and well detailed model and I am not very confident in my skill level, I have decide to build mine as a more simple scheme so as to concentrate on painting details and not camouflage...Also, I don't spray paint so I have to attempt to achieve suttle weathering and details with hand painting.

$300? Yeah, my wife's been keeping track of what I've spent...we're in - pun intended - the same boat!

I vote for U 204, because of the camo, but pick what excites you that litle bit more!

Gary - I didn't spray paint either, finally bought a used airbrush, and 8 years later there's there's no going back! It's NOT as scary as it seems and is SO much better! (Cleanup is a pain, but...)

Ahoy Ion,

I would go for U-204 .......great camo scheme. It is not often that we see
camo paint jobs on u-boats on the net. Yours will certainly distinguish
itself from the rest.

Have a nice day and happy modeling,
Joe

Yes, I believe I have contracted two very bad diseases from this hobby.

1. The stockpiling. I've managed to control the continuous buying of new kits, but now I buy stuff for the existing kits and buy more tools, paints, etc. I am still pretty much a novice too, so I will probably end up with a not-so-impressive kit, but oh well, at least I'll try my best.
Fortunately, I will go through at least a couple more kits before I do the 1/72 boat.

and 2. A little too exagerated attention to detail, too early in the hobby. Will I ever finish any kits now?

Oh and thanks for all the help! U-204 it is!
