Friday, I completed the display model of BlueJacket Shipcrafters' new 1/128 scale kit of OLYMPIA. They are going to start shipping next week. I've uploaded a photo of the finished model to:

Very, very nice. Looks like museum quality to me, in a good way.
I can remember some old, old kit of the Olympia. It was some really odd scale, from a company I can't even recall now. I just remember it was the biggest dog of a kit I ever tried to make. The hull didn't fit, the turrets wouldn't go where the instructions said they should, and don't even start on the instructions. This looks light years better.

Ahoy, Mr. Ross, and all me mates!
I've followed the creation of this beauty (and maybe some of you have too!) in the yahoo group that Al specially created for this project, and what a very interesting ride it has been! (thanks for the experience, Al!
)
It is a beautiful model, a very unique subject, and truly a musuem piece when completed.
Thanks for sharing, mate!
Cheers,
~Gunny

That may have been the old PYRO kit (late 1950s). This one is a traditional wooden kit with current technology - machine carved hull, laser cut superstructure parts, resin parts, lots of photo-etched brass (over 600 pieces), 70+ page instruction book, five sheets of plans, etc. It took me about a year to develop it.
It's a limited edition kit of 200 and quite a few of them were reserved before I even started.

What is a MOD feature?
If it involves photos, I took several hundred jpgs during construction, about half of which made their way into the CD BJ sells as an accessory to the kit.

Hi Al,
Yessir, quite simply, a MOD is a "Model On Display", in which a site member submits 15 or 20 good digi photos of his subject, and then it is published in a feature for all to enjoy. . .but if there is a copyright issue with BJ, then I guess there is nothing that we can do. . .
Cheers,
~Gunny

Not an issue. I talked with Jeff today and he said no problem. Besides, I took most of the photos... :-}
