Ahoy mates. I'm wanting to build a 1/700 shipyard slip to use as a background for wip photos. How tall should I make the dock for a waterline model?

Kenny,
Not sure I quite understand your question. Are you saying that your ship will be in the water, next to a dock or sitting in a drydock?
If it is next to a dock, depends on the tide and if it's in a drydock/slipway, going to look mighty funny without the bottom half of the hull.

Hey Kym. Here's what I'm wanting to do.
http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/i00000/i00748k.jpg
I figure the dock needs to be about a 1/4" tall from the water to the top of the dock. I'm going to use it as a photo backdrop when I take "in progress" photos of my models.
I want to put a 1/700 scale crane on the dock and scribe in some rail lines.
