Found an old revell USS Pittsburgh kit, but the guys box has no scale on it at all except it's alittle over 16 3/4" in length...found the real one was 675' long, multiplied by 12 and got 8100"{this is rough, I know}, divided afew times by different numbers and found 1/475 seemd to work out best for scale, which, as I recall, is about right for old revell...am I correct?
{Wish they made 1/350 scale heavy cruisers...well, affordable "injection molded" ones instead of resin...}

'List of ship kits' says 1/480? so it sounds like you're in the right area.

Yep, it is from the old days of "Box Scale" which simply meant that models were sized to fit standard size boxes.

Thanks guys, I knew it was a rough guess. Think it would be worth the $10 he wants even though it won't match up to my 1/350 scale stuff?

That depends on you. If it's a ship you really want then who cares? I've got 1/600 ships alongside 1/700, and 1/400 alongside 1/350. Since the manufacturers don't make all the kits we want in the scales we want and you want a particular ship you've got to do what you have to.

Have a look at the comments on List of Ship Kits.

Will take a while to load, but searching is relatively easy.

Hi all,
Sorry I Came in late but just to put my oar in the scale would appear to be 1/483, but as one other member has already said if you want a model of that ship/boat or what ever does it matter, I think not, why impose restrictions on your hobby, enjoy it.
