Hi Gunny,

I think the question should be how many books do you have for reference purposes not just on modelling.
Or is that another poll

Ahoy Gunny.

If I include all the back issues of magazines, I'm afraid to start counting. Great question. I think sometimes we pick up a reference book instead of a modeling book. They're a lot of great books out there about modeling.

Modeling related books?
Those with great line drawings, colour schemes, photos of the real thing, scale models photos and the lot??
Afraid to start counting - but more than two hundred - that's the "price" for being involved in this great hobby for more years that I can care to count
Voted

Great survey Mark

It gets really bad when you have more than one area of interest.....armor, figures, ships, planes, sci-fi, big rigs....

Aw come on!
Let's say you do this count and then in your sleep you accidently mumble something about all these (count) wonderful reference books that you've accumulated in the past (count) years and wifey hears this.
BIG TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Made that mistake recently with a kit count.
WHOA NELLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Voted. If you go strictly by Skipper's definition, "Those with great line drawings, colour schemes, photos of the real thing, scale models photos and the lot??", then it's between 25 and 50. Now that I've discovered the Concord "at war" series, like Zaloga's The Sherman at War, this is sure to climb quickly as soon as I can find more of them.

If you include back issues of old magazines, like Kenny suggests, then it's getting toward the "afraid to start counting." If I really want to freak myself out if I include ALL military history, or historic fiction books I have then it really gets scary. How does two six foot tall, two foot wide, six shelf bookcases jammed full of books. Then we won't even start to mention history related DVDs.

Yeah, I can imagine. My stash is mainly World War II Allied. I can't imagine if I were interested in German stuff.

I only have 5 of them. And can only find 4.
With the internet I think there mostly a wast of money considering my money modeling interests.

Jacob, I don't know what your modeling interests are, but I can't recommend those Concord "at war" series highly enough. For my WWII Allied kits they are the best source of inspiration I've ever found as far as not only making the kits, but also putting them in a diorama. You might look into them

Gunny,
All joking aside...I too am a lucky man as my wife Debbie tolerates my craziness.
She chides me now and then but on the whole supports my hobby.
We've been married for 35 years and you can guess that I've accumulated a great deal of reference materials and kits. Having almost 1,000 unbuilt kits, she really is pressing me to sell off some of the one's that I've admitted that I'll never build on eBay.
That's about the only grief she gives me and in all honesty ... she's right as usual.
As for how big is my library ... shhhhhhhh!

Ahoy mates,

My vote is cast.

As much as the internet has brought to us amazing access to all kinds of info,
there is nothing that can replace a good old book. I just keep buying them and
enjoy them.

As far a the wifey....I keep telling her.....would you rather I spend the money in
a bar?......you know the kind!

Cheers,
Joe

Just warship related, (historical & reference) a tad over 200 and a few aircraft and armour references.

Interesting results and comments, thus far, mates, thanks for taking the time to respond...
Basically, I've always been a sucker for a good book, and with the large influx of web based information available for us modelers, I feel a concern for the hard copy reference manual...I myself use what it takes to get the reference information needed, no matter the media type, but I will always prefer to have my reference in written, printed, and bound form!
Keep Modeling!

I'm in the greater than I care to admit category, but then I consider just about anything with decent information and pictures as a modeling reference. Guess I take after my dad!

Ahoy mates.

My wifey came home from the book fair that was at the hospital with a cool book for me. It's the anniversary book of V-E and V-J Day. A lot of cool photos. It also came with a reproduction July 1945 Life Magazine. It has a great article on the Navy base at Guam. Gotta luv a wife that knows your taste in books.

With ships it's still in the handfuls stage.

Tank and figure modelling related stuff is into the unknown hundreds....
