Very interesting results mate. It just goes to show you that if we look for kits with better quality, the manufacturers will produce them. I would believe with internet and fine sites like the KitMaker network, model makers are looking more at what the modeler has to say about the quality of their kits. This would explain the new toolings of older kits and the quality of most of the newer kits.

My $.02.

Interesting analogy, Gator, and I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head with this statement...the biggies are watching us, and they do listen...

The thing is when you build a subject that isn't covered that well by the big guys, like say 1/350 WWII cruisers, (oh wait, there hardly ARE any 1/350 WWII cruisers) then even if the kit isn't very good many of us will buy it anyway. In a case like that we may read the review, cringe when we read how bad it is, then go out and buy it anyway since it's the only game in town. In cases like that for those of us who want better we actually are hurting ourselves by buying less than perfect kits. That won't stop most of us from doing it anyway.

Just my .02, with a couple more cents thrown in for good measure.

Very interesting point, Rodge...(and 'tween you and me, I'd like to see more '350 scale cruisers, too!)
Personally, I do the same thing...if there's a kit out there that I want to build, I'm going to buy it regardless of what the reviewers are saying about it, and make the corrections as they need to be made, (that's why we're called modelers now, isn't it?! ), but it's still interesting to see what others are saying, and then make a comparison to your own findings...
Thanks for the thought provoking comments, mates!
Cheers,

The proverbial silk purse from a sow's ear. I did that with Heller's Higgins' boat.
