Redondo

This postcard shows the BBQ planned for the Fleet sailors during their visit to Los Angeles. The event was planned for thousands with young women waiting on the sailors' tables.

Local merchants were eager to be involved with the visit of the Fleet. The postcard below is from Bullock's which displayed a 17-foot model of the USS Connecticut to welcome the fleet.

The next instalment will be the reassembly of the Fleet.

Hey all,

I love "The Great White Fleet" installments. The last photo shows sailors standing next to a gun, question....What ship are they on and the turruet or box on top of that gun shows some empty slots are these veiw ports for that gun or are the slots for a secondary weapon like a machingun?

Ahoy Frank

Glad you are enjoying the instalments.

These boys are on the USS Washington. I am uncertain of the purpose for the slots.

Regards

Sean
