The Fleet arrived in San Franciso harbour through the Golden Gate with great ceremony. The review of the Secretary of the Navy included Admiral Dewey on a separate ship watching the Fleet pass. This group of photographs show the Fleet going to anchor and Admiral Dewey's ship. They were photographed by a private citizen probably from one of the many tourist boats.

A view of the harbour

While the Fleet lay at anchor in the harbour, many changes occurred including the command of the Fleet, beginning with the lowering of Admiral Evans' flag from the USS Connecticut on May 9th.
Here is a picture of the Fleet Launches arriving to disembark sailors on May 6th, 1908.

The next instalment will cover the anchorage for the Fleet.
