The parade in downtown San Francisco was one of the biggest events since the end of the Civil War. Over 8,000 blue jackets participated in an event involving over 14,000 marchers including the Marines and Army. The parade proceeded up Market Street from the Ferry Building to Van Ness Avenue, over to Washington Street, and down Washington Street to return to the Ferry Building.
