Sean,

The early battle ships seem quite wide. Are they wider than say USS Arizona or is it my mind playing tricks with me?

It's your eyes.

They probably look beamier because they are shorter. Here's some figures (from the NavSource website) that show the beams of USN battleships:

Class/Beam (in feet/inches):
Kearsarge - 72' 3"
Illinois - 72' 3"
Maine - 72 ' 3"
Virginia - 76' 3"
Connecticut - 76' 10"
Mississippi - 77'
Michigan - 80' 3"
Delaware - 85' 3"
Florida - 88' 3"
Wyoming - 93' 3"
New York - 95' 3"
Pennsylvania - 97' 1"

Martin,

True they are a bit on the squat side. Thank you for the info. Any one know off hand if they make a kit of the USS Michigan?
