The SCAHMS California Show, 2005
Their were several displays of Russian-crafted figures at the show. Those areas were constantly humming with ooo’s and ahh’s. And with good reason. The detailed brush strokes on elements like horse-hair and the wood-grain of a spear shaft are amazing. The figures are purportedly painted by art-school trained Russian painters (mainly women) who work on their area of specialty and then pass the figure on to the next painter. Still they are amazing to look at. You can find more information about them at Toy Soldiers of Kolobob (www.soldiers-russia.com). How much you ask? $500 (USD) on average.
