Introduction

The Super Cobra is a staple ground support helicopter for the US Marine Corps. The Super Cobra basically means it has two engines instead of one; the two engines were introduced due to the aircraft flying over the seas and oceans in support of ground troops. Bronco Models has released a set of four Super Cobras in 1/350th scale for use with this popular scale when it comes to ship models.

Review

These aircraft from Bronco Models are moulded completely in clear plastic, this approach has allowed Bronco Models and the modeller to have the glazed portion of the aircraft clear rather than painted blue as used to be the case. The parts for each aircraft is as you would expect minimal, but the detail is in my opinion very good for such a small scale. Each model consists of the two halves of the fuselage, the skids, engines, weapons systems for the pylons, main and tail rotor.

Looking over these little gems, details look good and there is even some recessed panel lines added to lift the models. Careful painting will result in very good representations of the Super Cobra due to the clear canopies as much as anything. The decals deserve special mention as there are 5 optional finishing options, I have scanned these at high resolution to enable you to see the effort put into this area of the model.

Conclusion

When these first arrived from Bronco Models I thought who is really going to utilise them, but when you consider the number of ship models available in this scale, they could be just the embellishment needed to add some movement or eye candy. Detail looks good overall and if care is taken with the paint the results could be great. I can see the likes of Kostas Katseas and Chris Flodberg finding these a great addition to their work. Highly recommended but make sure you have a steady hand.
SUMMARY
Highs: The decal sheet in this offering is worthy of special mention due to the details present in such a small scale.
Lows: The only possible weakness is that there will be a a joint seam in the middle of the front screen of the canopy.
Verdict: I feel these aircraft are exceptionally well detailed for the scale and well worth seeking out.
