Intro

This "First Look" style review is of Battlefleet Models new full resin kit, #BFM 3500DX, Deluxe Dock Set. This set can be used to build practically any dock set up that you may need to reproduce for your next 1/350 scale dock scene, accurately, and easily!

The deluxe set consists of seven seperate dock pieces (and a bonus set of assorted bollards!), that replicate a standard dock style and set up. Additional dock sections of all styles are also available seperately, to fully customize your dock layout. These sections can be trimmed and shaped to custom sizes as well.

Kit Breakdown

The kit consists of seven seperate pieces, listed as follows, with part number, description, and size, respectively:

  • #35003E, "Center Dock Section", 6"x3-1/8"x5/16" (2 included)
  • #35003A, "Top Dock Section", 6"x1-1/2"x5/16"
  • #35003B, "Parallel Top Dock Section", 6"x1-1/2"x5/16"
  • #35003C, "Left Side End Cap", 2-1/4"x1-1/2"x5/16"
  • #35003D, "Right Side End Cap", 2-1/4"x1-1/2"x5/16"
  • #35003F, "End Dock Section", 3-1/8"x2-5/16"x5/16"

Total set-up size of the included seven pieces, following the enclosed diagram, measures 16 3/4" wide x 16 1/4" long.

Castings are done in a light gray colored, heavy weight resin, with great side details on the exterior dockside waterlines, very clean, and evenly formed. Each dock piece exhibits it's own "heft", mates, trust me, there is a good bit of resin in these castings! The topside of each section is smooth and clean, with a slight raised lip cast around the entire circumference. All pieces mate together perfectly, and lay dead flat and square when lined up on a flat surface, as per the instructions.

Provided in the kit is a diagram of the suggested standard dock layout for the useage of all the enclosed pieces, but you, the modeler, can customize your set up by adding or subtracting parts and pieces, to fit your desired scheme. You can easily and effectively build a setup featuring a single dock section, to multiple docking stations.

The kit arrives to you packaged very well, each section in its own sealed plastic bag, then wrapped heavily with bubble wrap, and then packed into a heavyweight cardboard box, to assure a safe passage to your workbench. This kit also includes a little bonus, a wafer casting of assorted scale bollards to use on your dockside diorama!

Also available from BattleFleet is the "Standard Dock Set", kit #BFM-35003S, and comes with 5 dock sections, measuring 8 3/8"wide x 16 1/4" long. The standard dock set sells for $50.00 US, and is currently on special for $40.00 US. Both kits available now at the Official BattlefleetModels website, by following the link provided below!

I have been building models of all sorts all of my life, concentrating mainly on the coolest one's when I was younger, but now I focus directly on all military subjects, from armor to warships. After years of counting rivets, I put away the calipers, dial indicators, and micrometers and now just ha...
