"Fujimi's dedicated release for the 700th scale escort carrier IJN Kaiyo. One fret giving you plenty of added detailing."

Set Details

This dedicated photo-etch stainless steel fret for the new Escort Carrier Kaiyo by Fujimi offers a good set of upgrades to an already well detailed model.

The set provides a full set of railings which have the folding tabs at the base, this should aid in the alignment and placement onto plastic parts. In addition, the railings also have folding marks to follow the contours of the islands and hull bends. The railings are a bit on the thick side and might best be used as templates for a thinner generic set.

A full compliment of carrier masts are given. Vertical ladders in three sizes are provided. Propellers are given for the 16 aircraft included in the kit, one size fits all. Type 21 air search radars, davits and 10 single mount 25mm AA guns are included.

The flight deck receives eight photo-etch arresting wires and attachment points, two retractible crash barriers and a one piece, multi-fold recessed elevator shaft with a portion of adjacent hanger deck, presumably for either the aft or fore elevators.

In Conclusion

This set addresses some missing details and combined with the kit supplied fret gives you a great level of detail. Well done for such a small kit.

Highs: A good stainless steel photo-etch fret to improve the details of the new Fujimi Kaiyo escort carier.
Lows: Brass would be much preferred over the thicker stainless steel offering. English instructions would be nice.
Verdict: Great deal of added detail which surely will be used. Unlike other bigger and much awaited kit releases, this is one model that will not be seeing too many aftermarket sets. Act now and purchase it while itís still available.
