"Second in a series of "First Look" reviews here at MSW, we now get a look at "Cold War Ships of the US Navy", image reference CD, from Still Motions Photographics."

A short while back we presented the first MSW review of Still Motions Photographics series of reviews on slate here at the site, which can be viewed again here.

This second review takes a peek at Ray's photographic coverage of the post WWII USN era cold war ships, in CD style format, designed with the modeler/researcher in mind.

the CD, and what to expect...

Ray D. Bean, owner/operator of Still Motions Photographics, is a ship modeler himself, so he knows first hand at what ship modelers need as far as good reference images to help them along with their builds, albeit a common reproduced subject well covered in the hobby area in kit form, or a full blown scratch-build of an obscure vessel that hasn't been developed in kit form.

This second CD that I've had the pleasure of studying again does just what has been promised, and that's delivering some of the finest, high quality, high resolution digital images of the specific subject matter, in full color, and black and white clarity, for reference and research purposes.

This CD contains over 400 images of post WWII era USN vessels, many never before published in any format. Subjects covered range from Essex and Forrestal class carriers, FRAMED destroyers, gun and missile cruisers, and 1980's Iowa Class BB's, with an added bonus of special coverage of the Vietnam era vessels of the 1950's, 60's, and 70's.

In addition to many high quality digital images, there are also folders of line drawing profiles of all era correct USN ships, as well as official USN photographs of mast and radar details, all numbered and labeled for supreme user ability...a VERY useful collection in itself for super detailing!

I can't stress enough of the quality of photography present here, mates, and as you leaf through the many images, you will soon realize this for yourself...all of the images contained are individually titled and labeled, and dated as well, again, for ease of user/researcher.

Overall, this next CD packs plenty of punch in the reference department, and if you're looking for a high quality batch of era septic images of the cold war era, you need this CD...a definite valuable addition to any ship modeler’s library, all at your fingertips for calling up instantly, in a high resolution format.

Take a look at Ray's website for a complete listing of all of his photo reference CD's, I'm rock solid sure that you'll find a subject that interests you, and also sure that you won't be disappointed in what you're paying for...and as an added bonus, Ray offers free shipping to the continental US!
SUMMARY

Verdict: Overall, if you're a ship modeler looking for high quality imagery of post WWII USN Cold War vessels, you need this CD...highly recommended from this modelers point of view!

I have been building models of all sorts all of my life, concentrating mainly on the coolest one's when I was younger, but now I focus directly on all military subjects, from armor to warships. After years of counting rivets, I put away the calipers, dial indicators, and micrometers and now just ha...

Looks like a nice reference. Plus in CD format it sure takes up less shelf space. Thanks!
