The Packaging…

As some of us already would guess this set comes in a cardboard strengthened envelope. Since we will be facing one big fret the risk of damage is quiet low while your order will be delivered.

The Content…

After opening the envelope the modeler is confronted with a big photo etched brass fret inside a clear plastic bag followed by the instructions.
There are about 78 different parts, not counting those double parts, that wait their positioning on the Zvezda 1/350 Varyag kit.

I included a photo showing that WEM masterly included the full bridge structure as photo etched parts. The window frames are relief etched and will give a stunning representation when properly painted.

Beside that, WEM also provides the bow adornment. This is provided within the kit as a molded on part of the hull but due to the two halves configuration it can not be sanded without loosing the detail. WEM provides the model builder a great service with this inclusion.

Beside these outstanding relief etched additions one finds everything needed to enhance the handrails for the funnels, details for the boats including the paddles, the helm as well as the emergency command platform located stern of the ship.

Wherever useful WEM provides relief etching to the max extend possible. Simply stunning!

The Instructions…

The WEM instructions are printed on roughly Letter sized paper with a clear print. The drawings are big enough to be easily read and followed. The first page comes with a parts list.

At some drawings written instructions clarify the usage of special parts. The instructions end with some notes upon configuration alternatives.

Result and Conclusion…

Just look at the brilliant instruction sheets and you will loose any fear handling photo etched brass parts. Very nicely performed parts literally guide the model builder and encourage their usage.

Beside that, you will find relief etching in high quality all over. Work on your painting skills to not burry those details under tons of paint.

The only drawback, if you want, is the fact that it is one big fret. This raises the risk to damage some parts while handling it.

Other than that, there is nothing to complain about.

Despite what I have built in my younger years (most of them blew up or sank in a pond) I learned to lov...

Um, seems the WEM PE set is better AND cheaper than Flyhawks's? Thanks for doing both reviews, very useful!
