Flyhawk Model has been producing some fantastic photo etch for the naval modeler and the quality continues with this very nice set of 1/350 IJN 14" guns. Rendered in turned brass, these excellent barrels will spruce up any Kongo class kits from Fujimi, Aoshima, or Yankee Model Works.

There are twelve barrels included. This means that the builder can either build a Kongo class (eight guns), or a Fuso class (twelve guns). It's great to see Flyhawk looking ahead to the future of the IJN in plastic (or the present with resin or scratch built) with this set. For that matter, you'll only need three of these sets if you want to do all four Kongo sisters (32 guns) and will have four left over as sacrifices to the carpet monster.

Caution: This set has the Kongo labeled as "Kango", so modify your shopping search accordingly if you have any issues finding it.
SUMMARY
Highs: Nicely rendered. Enough to do a Kongo or Fuso. Excellent value.
Lows: None!
Verdict: A great upgrade for Kongo class and Fuso class ships.
