The photos in this CD really bring back memories of my childhood growing up near Long Beach, CA. Every year my father would take my brother and I down to the Long Beach naval base for Navy Day and many of the cruisers in this photo album were among the ships we’d be able to tour. I particularly remember the USS Chicago after her conversion to guided missile cruiser being moored just off the coast at the ammunition dump prior to deployment to Viet Nam.

The review CD arrived in a standard slip cover, no jewel case. This album concerns itself with only the Baltimore class of cruisers, though technically some of the ships are of the slightly modified Oregon City class. Some of the photos are of the World War II era, but many, if not most are of the post war period, up to and including Viet Nam.

The images are low resolution, in .jpeg, with a size of 3600 x 2400. Each image is named, normally with the name of the photo what it is, e.g. “68 Baltmore Strbr.” Many times the photo also has a label on the photo itself, such as “CA 68 Baltimore Moored Location and date unknown but post war.”

While some of the images are available on the internet this CD brings hundreds of photos together in one place in a format that is easily cropped, edited, re-sized, etc. When used for reference it makes it very easy to zoom into a particular point on the ship to get some detail just right. You will need some type of photo editing software to do this but even something like Microsoft Paint will do. Some of the images are shown multiple times, full view, and then cropped into smaller images.

One additional use, perhaps unintended, I can see for these images is to create a naval themed desktop and screen-saver file on my computer.

The only place I could find to purchase this CD is direct from Still Motions Photographics. The list price is $25.00 with free shipping to the U.S. The one negative I have found for these CD's, is the website is hard to navigate and find a particular CD.
