Ships supported with this set include Chitose, Chiyode, Akitsuhima, Chogei, Jingel, and Akashi. So you can outfit anyone of four actual different classes of ships with this one set. Not only that but you will also get detail pieces for some of these same ships aircraft.

The Set…

You will only get one large fret of PE, but there is a good deal packed in here. Cranes, catapults, masts, yardarms, railings, and more are included. We all know that those plastic parts never look right on our builds, so now you can make your Auxiliary ships look that much better.

The etchings look very crisp and smooth. Some of these parts will probably challenge the less experienced builder, but I think anyone who would consider themselves intermediate to crazy insane detailer would have no problem.

The catapults themselves consist of 8 separate pieces! The cranes for the Akashi repair ship will really add some much needed improvements to that project. There is even a clothes line full of laundry hung out to dry to add to the Akitsuhima.

Instructions…

These are printed on one full size sheet, front and back. First you get some basics on dealing with PE and then you dive right into the mix.

You will find isometric details for assembly of the various parts. The folding diagrams to me did seem to take you in the right direction. Some of the new PE parts will require you to add some brass rods to finish them off correctly, so have some on hand.

Impressions…

I picked up this set for a reason, to add detail to my Chiyoda build. I got 3 other ships worth of details. I cannot wait to dive in and restart my project.

Firstly - a very good clear review of this 1-700 photoetch system, I've had nothing but problems from Gold Medal in ordering items, no matter how many times I download adobe reader which ther suport, my computer constantly throws it out, I would love to know where else I can buy this kit from.

Alec - Freetime Hobbies has GMM products. I also believe Pacific Front also does, but his site is not working this AM. I ordered mine directly from GMM. Sorry to hear there is a problem getting thier site to work for you. I am really wanting to get back into my Chiyoda build and use this set.
