As technology improves that means one thing for modelers, improved detail. As more builders work toward adding the small details to their projects industry has responded. Fine Molds is one of the companies to respond with specialty sets of detail parts to add to your project.

The Set…

The boat and davits set comes in a small box containing two separate sprues of parts and an instruction sheet. The parts included are davits for the ships boats, torpedo loading, and depth charge loading. You will also get three separate boats to add to your ship.

The boats included in this set are nicer than those that are included in the kit, especially one from a couple years ago. There is a 7m cutter that comes with severalty molded oars and exterior planking. There are also two 7.5m motor cutters. You can make these either covered or open.

Two separate styles of boat davits are included as well. One your typical simple over the top style, the second one the more complex recurve style. On Both finely represent the davit and its details.

I remember back when a ship model was a series of oversized pieces of plastic used to represnt details. Now we have small delicate pieces that blow just about anything out of the water. Makes a modeler wonder where we will be in another 5 years.

There are enough parts in the set to cover two seperate ships. At $16 or more the set might seem a little pricey for some builders, but if you really want to take your build to the next level it is worth it.

Pay attention to the attachment points when removing the parts.
Highs: Great looking parts.
Lows: Large attachment points on small parts.
Verdict: Great detail set to add to your IJN Destroyer.
