Paint Set

These two sets each consist of 3 22ml pots of acrylic paint in the usual end opening cardboard box. The box displays on the front the effects the contents are meant to reproduce, and on the back shows the contents, also giving the serial number for the paints. The grime effect colours are given as “lime green”, “dirty green” and “green brown” and the damp effect as “vegetable origin damp green”, “vegetable origin damp yellow” and “dark mold”.

The paints are thinner than a regular acrylic, but thicker than the washes I am used to. They are semi translucent, allowing the base colour to show through. I have only tried applying them by brush, as I do don’t think they are thin enough to pass through an airbrush and further thinning would also reduce the effect.
Taking the grime effect first, lime green looks a bit bright in the pot, but once applied it tones down quite nicely once applied and gives a good new clean water stain effect, a drop of water or thinners in the middle or at the top of the stain will push the pigment towards the edge making the stain look effective. The dirty green looks effective for an older stain, and the brown green for a stain with dirty or oily water. The colours mix well, and if applied one of the other whilst wet produce a great effect. This as with the mold effect was done onto matt paint, as this will absorb some of the paint thus producing in effect a real stain.

The mold effect paints are of a similar type and work the same way.

I tried the paints on an abandoned 1/72nd scale S Boat, and I am pleased with the effect, especially on the planked walkways beside the bridge, These were almost dry brushed, the colours could be layered to produce differing shades and types of staining.
