Hi Folks, First post on here and first kit for many years!

Inspired in no small part by 'AlanL' I'm going to attempt the MAS with interior.

A few questions to start
1. Does anyone know what colour torpedoes are, everyone seems to have a different idea?

2. On the MAS boat was the hull planking double diagonal or longitudinal?

3. Anyone have any pictures of wheelhouse or engine room?
I have seen the drawings from Al Ross.

4. Confirmation of antifouling colour?

Thanks for looking

Kev

Hi Kev,

Way to go, look forward to the build.

All the references still seem to be in place in the original build blog. There is a partial picture of the engine room shown there.

Not being a true boat person I'll leave the more technical details to others.

Have you found an alternative source for the engine or are you going to scratch build one?

I'll be following along. Are you going to add the rear work area and forward stowage locker? If I'd had more skill I would have partially opened one side of the boat to display the internals, but I didn't think I could pull that off.

Cheers

Al

Sorry for delay, problems uploading pics.
I have started by building a slipway cradle for the boat, built from plastic profiles and balsa.

PS Well done Andy Murray

Yeah success!

Some progress. Two shades of Halfords primer, bit of Vaseline between coats... peeling paint.

Balsa stained with pine then given a black oil wash, now looking a bit more like wood.

Hi Al
Found a pic to go with the line drawings in above post so I have a go at scratch building the engines.

I have an advantage with reading the drawings, I was in the Merchant Navy about the time they changed from sail to steam.

The thoughts at present are to detail engine room and crews quarters.

Hi Kev,

These are the only pics of the engine I had to work from. The top one shows the connection to the reduction gear.

Hope that helps.

Sound like a good plan.

Like the cradle, much more interesting way of displaying the model than the usual stand. Al

I was just thinking that Al, really is an interesting approach. The rest of the build should be worth following.

Impressive! Even more so when I saw that it was not the kit. I guess we should thank the builder, 'cause whenever someone builds a difficult subject from scratch, some manufacturer invariably comes out with a kit of it! Al

Finally cracked it !

Exhausts were giving me problems, think this might work.
Areas that are bright steel to be made up with milliput.

Hi,

Anyone any suggestions as to where I might get some photo etch valve wheels and instrument bezels.

For the valve wheels you might try brake wheels from the Walther's model railroad catalog, there is lots of other stuff in there that can come in handy when scratch-building. Someone used to make bezels for 1/32 A/C but I can't remember who. Al

Should have said, exhaust does not go across the boat! Linked them together to make set up easier.

Note to self, don't go overboard (sic) with super detailing engine room !!

I don't intend to build with 'lift off' bits, the view will be through sky lights, ports and hatches left open.

'AlanL' can you check your boat and see if you can actually see through the portholes in coach roof over engineroom.

Cheers
