Hello, i think its the right date to present another navy project from me.
It is the H.M.S Hood 1/350 from Trumpeter, the Trumpy detail set was /will be used, the wooden deck is from Pontos, PEs from Eduard and the main gun turrets are from WEM, as well the color, used for AP 507B / AP 507A.
It was started in 2008 and stalled repeated times. Now i have everything i need for and hope to finish this kit, in the next time.
Restarted it yesterday and added a lot of deck details and connected the turrets with the barrels from the Trumpeter set. More soon, the kit is on the ( cleared ) bench and i am building on her.
Comments, suggestions are higly appreciated
Hope you like it, so far
Best
Bernd
That was the condition before the re start
Some details added, most of the superstructure isn t glued on, yet.
Capstans, break waters and louvers are fitted and need some paint. After some try outs, i used the plastic break waters from the kit.
Still not too perfect, note the damage on the deck house between the funnels, oh well ( fallen out of my hand )
It can be true, that the dark waterline is way too broad
The turrets need their range finders, they are a major improvement over the kit ones
Note the other hull !

Nothing better than getting to resurrect an old build Bernd! She's looking real good too! Keep pushing it around the bench!

Thanks for your comment, Todd. As said, i have started her in 2008. They were actually faster on the real thing. In the meantime, i got some more skills and hope the end result will be a pleasing sight.
The kit itself is really nice, not the best fit but nice detailed.
Got a soft spot for the RN battlecruisers, elegant and beautiful lines.
Cheers
Bernd

Well she is a pretty girl and should look great up on the shelf when complete. Gaining news skills is all part of the game my friend! We all learn something new each time we build something! Have FUN!!

Bernd,
Your Hood looks great. I know what you mean about having shelf queens. I have the USS Missouri on the shelf a portion started. Will have to break it out sometime in the near future.
Looking forward to watching you progress through this build.

Hi Bernd,
I am with you on the RN battlecruisers.
Your Hood is looking great. It is the one ship I would like to try in 1:200 scale.
Looking forward to further progress.
cheers

Hi Michael,i guess you know it, Trumpeter will release Hood in 1/200. This will be a stunning looking ship.Make sure to have some extra space
Did you have the 1/200 H.M.S Nelson ?
Trumpeter will release the Nelson class battleships in 1/350 as well, thats good news too.
And they are busy, making versions from the H.M.S Dreadnought kit, dreaming for H.M.S Tiger ?

Hi David, modelling is a strange thing, having a stash of unbuild and half build kits and looking for new stuff...
Modelling works only, if the right motivation is there, for a build. Got aircrafts, tanks and ships on/beside the bench, some very close to finish. They will be finished, if the time is right for them.
Hope to see your U.S.S Missouri soon.

Thanks for the reply Todd. Correct, getting new skills is part of our hobby.
From time to time, i do updates, on older builds and keep my old stuff.
Just applied a winter whitewash on a Tamiya T-34, 1/48. Looks like a new one on the shelf.

So, news from my slipway. The weekend was long, the weather was bad, good for modelling.
All the new added parts were painted, without messing up the wooden deck
Added the rangefinders on the main turrets, the ammunition lockers were added, the smaller ones got some putty, to solve the bullet holes on their back (pin markers)
Detailed the funnels, added some new parts to the superstructure and on the boat deck.
The damaged degaussing cable was also repaired, along with some paint glitches, some of the newer parts needs still some touch ups
Hope to get more progress added, this week. The single parts will be presented, when detailed up.
Best Regards
Bernd

Hello mates, thanks for stopping and leaving the kind comments, very appreciated !
Here are the result from yesterday evenings work. Made some work on Hoods funnel cabs. Drilled out the surplus plasic, cleaned it and replaced the cab with the PE parts found in the Big ED fret. Not easy, the brass was quite stiff, so bending didn t worked too good and the final result is not like in the instructions but its done
More to come soon
Cheers
Bernd

Bernd,
Grat work on the funnels and the cabs. Folding these on any ship are a challenge in my opinion.
great work

Hi Dave, thank you very much and correct!
Thats not a relaxing task and need some more attention, i am glad, that they are on.
But its a real improvement over the plastic parts.

Thank you Russel and Simon for stopping and leaving a comment.
Thats a great boost for motivation.
More news, made yesterday the rest of the missing ammunition cases and some detail work on various deck houses.
Every of these small parts have a pin marker molded in and this had to be filled and sanded, after this, the front received the PE part.
Thanks for watching
Bernd

Hello and thanks for your nice replies, mates :-)
Some new progress, made some work on Hoods multi purpose guns
These guns replaced her secondary battery.
The kits twin gun barrels were replaced with the metal ones, found in the Trumpy detail set and the PE parts for the sights came from the Big Ed set.
The metal barrels are a major improvement over the plastic parts.
There will be further PE details on the backside of the shields
More soon, wish you a great time
Cheers
