17th Century British Warship

  • 000_1746
"New crew-mate Den Holmes (densships) sends us this fantastic gallery of images of his complete scratchbuild of this 64 gun British warship"

The Model...
The model is 100% scratch-built, custom made, of chestnut wood, and some of the hull and deck planks were delibertly left off the model to show how the ship was constructed....The scale of this ship is 1/96, so in real size, the vessel would be 168' long x 42' wide, and draws 21' of water.

The model itself measures in at 27" long x 12" wide, and 25" high mid-ship, and has 5 different deck levels, plank-on-frame construction. Total work hours on the model, 1,175, and about 10,000 pieces.

Over 61' of rigging went into her, and all of the shrouds, and the standing rigging were made by hand on a ropewalk. (Ed. note-more on the "ropewalk" in a later Feature!)

Fantastic model Den! It's brilliantly layered, you must have constantly given thought as you added layer upon layer. The sails are beautifully constructed, your subtle stiching and natural flows of the fabric are flawless. thank you for sharing, Frank
