1⁄700IJN CHOKAI, Battle of Samar

Presentation/diorama...
The water is a clear glass plate from the local glass shop (The glass type that was in many front doors here in Denmark in the old days). I was lucky to see the many types in the store and fund this one to be the best suited to scale 1/700. The blue color comes from a curled trash plastic bag underneath; the curling gives a good 3D effect in the "water". The small bubble waves on the front side of the glass plate sparkles in the sunrays a give it a feeling if real water. The white foam is NOT Cocaine! ... ;-) - it's just potato powder arranged with brush, cloth and fingers! (Can be a little mess and will not do in windy conditions). The background is made of pale blue cardboard. I have placed the cardboard 1 inch under the glass plate to make the horizon more sharp (please see Picture 1). The last picture (Picture 26) is a manipulated Photo of real sea and the model)
I hope this gave you a feeling of my thoughts and working process, and I hope to inspire other fellow modelers to go out and seek a Takao-class cruiser and enjoy the building as much as I did.

Another excellent build, Lars! The Chokai is an awesome ship in both the way it looks and in service and you've rendered her beautifully. I also agree with your admiration of Dan Kaplan. Dan is my hero in 1/700 IJN builds and I believe he's one of the best IJN modelers in the world.
Can't wait to see more of your work!

Hi Lars
Definitely, one of your best works!
Apart from being a beautiful ship, you have rendered a very good scale model of it. I really like the amount of work/details/corrections you have put on it, even if the Skywave model is already good.
I have the Aoshima new tooling one in my stash - yours will be a good reference.
Congratulations, once again

Rui
PS: I agree with Dan Kaplan's skills, but I have to add, at least, three names:
- Seitaro Ohki
- Alan Chung
- and of course: Jeff Lin

Lars: I agree with everyone! This is one of your best builds yet. You've managed to capture the look of the IJN heavy cruisers perfectly, with their "top heavy" look! Great job!

Lars, thanks for sharing your build. I really can't add to what everyone else said, so I'll just say what an overall fine build you did. The water is especially convincing, one of the best water effects that I've seen.
