Nan Red and Pier 51

  • move

The next update was of the Trumpeter LCM 3 and was the stocking up the Bedford QLD which will be loading onto the boat. This one is for Pier 51, the boats of which were featured here:

The Boats of Pier 51

The Bedord was a scratch build job, based on the old Italeri Portee with an Accurate Armour cab, something I've very chuffed with.

I went a bit OTT with the damage on the front of this one and I'l really like to aquire some proper sized markings for the boat, so a bit of fixing up to do yet.

Both projects are alive and well be it all several years behind schedule, I have a fair size box of additional goodies that need building and still much work to do, but given time I hope that the projects will mature into something worthwhile and even if they don't well I'll have had a lot of fun along the way.

Have I set a time limit on getting the builds completed, well the answer is no, but I'm working on them as time permits. New items and new skills take time to acquire and I have still much to learn.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Hi Guys, Pier 51 Thanks for looking, things are moving along, I'm working on a couple of RN Petty Officers to staff the radio room in the Lighthouse although the arrival of the Vosper could complicate things more . The LCM 3 for this one needs a bit of tidy up work and I need to get some decals made to mark the boats correctly. If Italeri stay true to form then the Vosper might finally produce a set of British Sailors, I see they have some for the Italian boat forecast, so that would be handy. I did finish the wagons for the top of the pier through Nan Red Trying to get as many individual figuers as possible to fill the boats form the Tamiya and DML British infantry sets available was not and easy task and there are a lot of troops across the two boats, plus about another 30 to do for on the beach area. I'm not 100% happy with the crews I need to find a good sailor type figure for the front of the LCM 3 as if I've read my facts correctly one would have been stationed there to ensure the ramp lowered and to clear any debris that might foul raising the ramp after disembarkation. There have been some useful new British troops, the Scotland the Brave Set from MB and the RE Mine Clearing Team so addition variety is slowly starting to appear, even though I'd already started on some mine sweapers for the exit ramp. I was thinking of trying to do the LCVP as a damaged boat, half submerged or caught up on an obstacle, which is why I haven't done anything else to it yet, as it's an idea floating around in my mind. Add a wife, work, all the wonderful new British kits that have suddenly appeared, reviews and features/walkabouts and it's a wonder I get anything done any more I'll keep you posted if anything of interest gets done. Cheers Al

Talk about a teaser! If the scenery comes out half as well as the landing craft, we'll be in for a delight in the Features section! The Bedford came out well--we ship modelers still have to do a lot of scratchbuilding to get other vehicles in our scenes. --Karl

Hi Steve, Might have to wait a few more years yet . Still I'm getting a revived interest so the Christmas Holidays might seem some decent progress. In the mean time work so far on my RN chaps for the radio room. Al
