IPMS UK/Scale Model World 2010

"MSW plank-owner Rui Matos (skipper) continues in his tradition of covering the Telford based IPMS UK/Scale Model World, in this fantastic show report from this years event!"

Finally it arrived! The event I have been waiting for a year!

Again, I, Filipe and a first timer, AMA VP Silva Rocha traveled to England with our models and hand luggage.

This time no harm came to the models, everything was on schedule (apart from a small delay in the train in Birmingham) and we arrived at Telford just in time to meet our friends Mike McCabe, Jim Baumann, Jim Smith, Rob Kernaghan, Peter Fulgoney, David Griffith, Guido Hopp, Christian Bruer and Frank Spahr from the German Gamblers Team, Yannis from YS Models and again a Polish delegation with Jerzy Bin (JB Models.eu - also a first timer) and Andrzej Brozyna that we had met last year.

The WEM crew was also there for our first night of beer and dinner, talk and discussion of ship modeling and other themes! All in all a very good evening enjoyed with friends...

The next morning was time to take my models to the FineWaterLine display and to the competition area. As you can see from the photos of the roundabout just in front of my hotel room window, I was not the only one that was looking for this event! These photos were taken with a 30 minute interval, and it was still 08:40 - 20 minutes to IPMS members to be allowed in the Halls and one hour and twenty for non-members.

So... Let's GO!!

First shock after passing card control: a 1/1 Spitfire (replica/kit not the real thing). Bigger kit on display! :)

Note 1: Again, I have to apologize for the quality on some of the photos, mainly because of glass and plastic cases that protect the models. I am also guilty; my competition entry had one - allowed for ships and ship dioramas. This turns the photographic reporters task more difficult, but I have to say that nothing was broken in the travel or the period of exhibit which, for me is a plus! Even so, with some not so good photos, I included them in this photo report, so that you can enjoy it and give some "air time" to those who actually take care in their works, but still took them to the show.

Note 2: My thanks to Filipe Ramires for lending me the photos of Wespe Models ship kits - for the first time in five years, my camera memory card filled!!!!

Note 3: Respect! I still manage to get some respect from fellow Kitmaker crew members! Lucciano (Littorio) shows me that he is working on submarine models, not just wingy things

Thank you Rui for this excellent report and all your efforts making this huge amount of photos and superb text. I just found out what all I have missed. Really it was a great show and it is always a great pleasure to attend. Meeting all these fellow modellers there. Deeply impressed Peter

Thanks guys! I am glad that all of you enjoyed the show report! This is one of the reason for not appearing in some of the FWL group photos It takes some time, and have to pay attention to all display tables and stands, but in the end, this is my way of saying Thank You to all that took ship models to this great event! It may seem too many hours of show, but I have failed to speak with some chaps... Peter Plattner, Kohey from ModelArt, Jacques Druel from L'Arsenal are some of them... Next year maybe... Let's hope so! Cheers, Rui EDIT: Just a quick note to say that the Group Photo was NOT taken by me or with my camera

A wonderful round-up on a most excellent show! Rui's excellent photography was a boon--with so many fascinating subjects shown (like the 1:72 Austrian torpedo craft and that Sagamore scene in the graving dock), it is certainly the best of times in ship modeling. --Karl

Excellent report Rui, and a mug shot of me to tone it down Looking through your photo's I just remembered a stand I was going to check out, well a bit late now I'll have to wait till next year. (at least the camera couldn't see under the table where the big box was hiding)

Awesome, just awesome...! It took me some time to look at the 500.000 photos (hehehe), but I saw them all! I'm becoming a bigger ship enthusiast everyday...
