1⁄700USS Brooklyn 1898
USS Brooklyn 1898...
This is the Iron Shipwrights 1/700 armored cruiser Brooklyn circa 1898. The kit is no longer in production and I bought this one from John Rule in Canada who is selling his stash because of illness.
I promised him I would build whichever kit he chose from the ones I bought and post the photos, as he wanted to see at least of of his ships built. He chose the Brooklyn, and here it is!
The kit required a lot of scratchbuilding and some modification due to its age. I cast the main gun turrets, scratchbuilt the entire mast structures, smokestacks and steam vents, boat storage racks, and other small parts, and used a variety of PE details and railings and parts taken from my spares bins to make the final product. I used Floquil paints and Alclad Pale Gold for the bow crest. Caenis line and stretched sprue was used for the rigging. All in all it was a daunting project that came out fairly well in the end!
