UB-III 1917-1935

  • move
Hans humbly admits to dedicating a mere 100 hours of build time to this 580 part cutaway of the UB-III.

This submarine model allowed for the possibility to view the interior structure, machines, armament, crew, and crew space down to details as miniscule as the toilet(s).

As this was a 1:72 scale build, one can find a lot of figures. Hans used US and German airforce figures, along with Hats sailors, to provide the ship with a complete crew of 34.

Hans Joachim; this is impressive! If you are a newbie model maker, then I can not await seeing your work with more experience - it might be extraordinary! The interior bulkheads, are they laser-cut wood or laserboard?

hi, thanks a lot for your commendation! All main structure parts like the bulkheads are 1 or 2mm lasercut wood, sanded, lacquered and then painted with steel color. Newbie - it took me 1 and 1/2 year, starting from 0, to work out my idea of a submarine model with interior details, so I was forced to learn a lot and so I won experience :-) This is is my first model, but I think not my last, as I am specially interested in WWI German submarine warfare and have some more detailed plans of other types. Next I will do a UB-III without interior structure, but instead with place for rc-equipment. best regards Hans
