Waarschip 10-10

  • move
Basilios Geihos shares his latest creation with us! This time a 1/87 scale diorama of Waarschip 10-10 sailing yacht. Basilios tells us the model is from Artitech. This is a resin kit, which he says is easy to build kit boasting some good details. For the sails he used paper and the figures are from Preiser. The model was painted using Model Air from Vallejo.

Mode Shipwrights would like to thank Basilios Geihos for sharing photos of his Waarschip 10-10 sailing yacht.

Wonderful composition: the choice of boat, the craftsmanship, the water effects, the figures, and the simplicity of the setting. Could we get close ups?

I agree - and a description of how you made that lovely sea would be most welcome as well!

Thank you mates for your nice comments. Unfortunately I can’t take any more photos, the model was a commission work and it is already in the collectors display cabinet! Concerning the sea ,I did not use any “exotic” material. I always have as a base a Styrofoam piece. For the waves I use air dry clay which I roughen it with an old brush. I like to work with simple acrylics to paint the sea and to give the transparency with acrylic gel. The secret in the gel is making a lot of layers and sometimes to paint between them lighter tones of your basic sea color. For the white water the combination of cotton with acrylic gloss medium is the better solution. If the sea is calm sometimes I use transparent resin for the final layer.

Thanks for that description Basilios. You make it sound so simple, but your results are super!
